About our Practice

Get to Know Dr. Ames (Dr. A)

Meet the dad, dentist, and founder behind Bluebonnet Pediatric Dentistry, Dr. Jonathan Ames! Growing up in the suburbs of Houston, Dr. Ames originally wanted to help others as a psychiatrist. That all changed after attending a Boy Scouts of America career night that featured a wonderful dentist. Instantly inspired, Dr. Ames went on to earn the dentistry merit badge (yes, it has a tooth on it!), and carried this newfound passion into his time as an Eagle Scout.

Bringing his dreams to life, Dr. Ames achieved his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree, Advanced Education in General Dentistry, and Pediatric Dentistry Certificate at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. He knew he wanted to do so much more than simply treat little smiles; he wanted to be an advocate for children and an asset for parents. This mission sparked the beginning of Bluebonnet Pediatric Dentistry, and the rest is history.

For Dr. Ames, there’s nothing more fulfilling than being a true friend to the parents and kids under his care. He loves bonding over shared experiences as a parent, making positive memories with his young patients, and fostering a compassionate environment where parents never feel judged for the state of their child’s oral health. Instead, he’ll meet you and your child right where you’re at, guiding you with respect, integrity, and kindness every step of the way.

In his spare time, you can find Dr. Ames cooking flavorful recipes in the kitchen or gardening in his backyard. Most of all, he treasures spending quality time with his amazing wife and four precious kids. Together, they love visiting at least one National Park a year! From the Grand Canyon to Yellowstone, ask Dr. Ames about some of his favorite parks!

We work from an attitude of gratitude because we truly believe we have the best patients in the world. With our gentle, informative approach and commitment to your child’s comfort, it’s our privilege to serve you and your family with the highest standard of care in Brenham, TX.

What to Expect

When you and your child step into Bluebonnet Pediatric Dentistry, our front desk crew will welcome you and your kiddo with warm smiles and thoughtful, personalized care. All children are welcome at our office, including young patients with special health care needs!

During your family’s first visit, our top focus will be getting to know all about you and your kiddo; think of it as a meet and greet! We offer no-cost office tours and free prizes to familiarize your child with our practice, showing them just how fun visiting their new dental friends can be.

Dr. Ames and our caring team will also learn about your little one’s dental needs with digital x-rays. After your child’s exam, Dr. Ames will connect with you to share his findings in detail, answer any questions you may have, and provide a customized, pressure-free treatment plan to set your child up for smiling success.

Free In-Office Library

We see each day as an opportunity to go beyond dentistry by inspiring our little patients to dream big. And we believe one of the best ways we can accomplish that is through the joy of reading! From his youngest years, Dr. Ames remembers the pure excitement he felt on his trips to the library with his mom, exploring endless shelves of books and getting lost in a good story. Libraries continued to play an important role in his life during college. Working at the Brigham Young University library helped Dr. Ames pay his way through school, and gave his family access to new books, movies, audiobooks, and community services they didn’t have the means to enjoy otherwise.

Today, Dr. Ames is bringing that same sense of awe, wonder, and freedom to his young patients with our free in-office library. We have shelves of books for kids of all ages in our patient lounge, where you and your child can take a book and read it together at home. Have a well-loved book looking for its next chapter? Feel free to leave it at our in-office library for other families to enjoy! This is a great way to get some incredible stories into the hands of Brehnam’s kids and teens, and it’s all thanks to the support of our patients and parents!

Tech & Amenities

As a father himself, Dr. Ames understands it can be stressful introducing your child to a new dental office. That’s why everything about our practice is lovingly designed with you and your little one’s comfort in mind. While you won’t have to wait long, feel free to relax in our calming patient lounge while your kiddo explores our spacious play area. Filled with arcade machines, a prize tower, toy cubbies for our tiniest patients, and even a magnetic wall board with spinning gears, there’s something for every child to enjoy!

When it’s time to care for your child’s smile, they can kick back in the dentist chair with confidence. From streaming their favorite kid-friendly movies on our ceiling-mounted TVs to easing any dental anxiety with in-office general anesthesia, your child can always look forward to a safe, worry-free experience at our office.

Community Outreach

Bluebonnet Pediatric Dentistry is pleased to partner with the Brenham Education Foundation, run by the Brenham ISD. For each new patient seen at Bluebonnet Pediatric Dentistry, Dr. Ames will donate a portion of the exam fee to the Brenham Education Foundation, which provides mini-grants to teachers, departments and sometimes entire schools.

From hydroponics and xeriscaping to wiggle chairs and theatre arts lighting, Brenham Education Foundation mini-grants help our children and teachers achieve their goals and set them up for success.

Dr. Ames is passionate about education and is excited to assist teachers as they work to meet the needs of the students in the Brenham area. When you come to our office, you are supporting not only your child but also the academic growth of other children in our community.
